The magnificent Thirlestane Castle, Lauder, is delighted to be opening its doors once again, with tours running from the 2nd of May to October 2023. Nestled within the beautiful landscape of the Scottish Borders, Thirlestane is one of the oldest and finest castles in Scotland.

Visitors are invited to immerse themselves in history by exploring the unique collections displayed throughout the Castle, led by expert local guides. This year guests can discover the newly renovated State Rooms where the plasterwork ceilings have been refreshed and gilded with new gold leaf and the wallpaper has been replaced with fresh replicas of the original design.

Guests can also discover the history of the Maitland family, who have called Thirlestane Castle home for over 400 years. From one of the most extensive family portrait collections in Scotland to unique treasures in the collections, visitors can trace back through the generations that have cared for Thirlestane over the centuries.

There are several special events available throughout the summer including monthly afternoon tea experiences in the historic Victorian Kitchens, Dachshund Day, the BVAC Classic Festival of Motoring, outdoor theatre performances by Chapterhouse Theatre and Wild Outdoor Activity Camps.
