While some people like the idea of being waited on while they’re on holiday, others want something with complete flexibility, which is why self-catering is such a great choice for anyone with kids or pets in tow – several of them are pet friendly and with your own private drive ways and plenty of space to live in during your stay, you can really settle in and enjoy yourself.

Some of the most popular self catering options are cottages and apartments, usually within a larger building. These choices are often older properties with plenty of character and history and some are even located within castles or country estates with hundreds of years’ worth of stories just waiting to be uncovered!

Not everyone wants to stay in a cottage or an apartment and if that’s you, why not check out some of Britain’s more unusual accommodation options? From glamping sites with Safari tents complete with running water and actual beds to treehouses and traditional traveller caravans, there is something for everyone’s taste in the UK! For a riverside experience, why not book a canal boat for a week or for something more rural, stay on a farm where you can be awoken by cockerels and spend your days petting the sheep and other farm animals!  

Camping and caravan holidays 

One of the most quintessential British pastimes is the humble camping holiday, there is something quite special about waking up with the sun and enjoying the first cup of tea of the day under canvas. It isn’t for everyone, but it is something that should be experienced at least once! Alternatively, there are a host of holiday parks across the nation, many of which are located with easy access to a host of heritage attractions and have a range of fun, family friendly facilities right on the doorstep including swimming pools, activities and entertainment.
