Thirlestane Castle, Lauder is holding a Volunteers’ Open Morning in a bid to grow the team that generously donate their time to the castle, ‘one of the oldest and finest inhabited castles in Scotland’.

We are looking to increase our pool of volunteers – the ‘Friends of Thirlestane’ so visitors get the best experience from their time at the castle. Without our volunteers, the charitable trust that operates the castle would not be able to open its doors.

Thirlestane Castle Trust is appealing to anyone who may have some spare time, even if it is just a half day every so often, to consider joining our friendly team. We need people to help in our shop and to meet and greet people so it doesn’t matter if history is not your passion, we just want people who will help to give our visitors a great experience.

In order to introduce potential volunteers to the castle, show them around and introduce the rest of the team, we are holding an Open Morning on Friday 22nd March. Please contact the castle if you are interested in coming along and we will provide more details. Even if you cannot make it along on that day but would still like to become involved, please do get in touch.

Edward Maitland-Carew said: "It is ‘The Friends of Thirlestane’ that enable us to open to the public every summer. Without the friends we would not be able to open our doors to the visitors and allow more people to see the charm of this 16thcentury building and the amazing collections inside. Your help is so important to the castle, so please consider coming along to our Open Morning to see how you can help protect this magnificent building for future generations.”
