Join us for a unique tour of Holkham Hall, focussing on great hospitality and lavish parties in days gone by…
Holkham Hall is perhaps the only eighteenth century house in the country to have an entire wing dedicated to guests, or 'Strangers' as they were called in eighteenth century parlance.
From the very moment of the Hall's conception, entertaining guests has been key, and under Thomas William Coke 'of Norfolk', Holkham became known for holding large scale events, where up to 500 guests would be in attendance.
How were these guests accommodated? What did they eat? And how were they entertained? Discover all this and more, on a Country House Party Tour of Holkham Hall, led by our Collections Coordinator, Katherine Hardwick.
