Raby Castle will celebrate the year with stories associated with 19th-century inventions, including the reactions of landowners and farmers to trains, as well as how travel evolved into a privilege for the upper classes from their collections.
From the turnpikes and waggon ways of the late 1700s to the experience of first-class passengers during the golden age of steam a century later, the opportunity to travel has always been part of the Raby story.
This exhibition journeys through time and tunnels into Raby’s archives and collections to discover stories of railway development.
