Roman Crafts & Technology Weekend

About

Visit a Roman encampment of soldiers, traders and artisans and watch the Roman Army do battle against the enemy!

The Romans have set up camp at Binchester Roman Fort. Come along and see displays of a wide range of ancient crafts and watch our Roman potter at work. He may let you make your own piece of Roman pottery to take home! You can also inspect the weapons, armour and equipment of Roman soldiers.

Watch the Roman Army do battle against the enemies of Rome. See demonstrations of archery, slingstaffs and the firing of the artillery catapult known as the ballista. Children can even enter the battle against local tribes!

Tour the site and be amazed by the size and importance of Vinovia and its magnificently well-preserved buildings.
