Heraldry – What's it All About?

About

Since early times, there seems to have existed an innate need to use symbols to distinguish individuals. In Europe, by the twelfth century, this need was being met by a wholly new technique and we know that by 1127 it had arrived in England. Why? What made this system – with its ever more complex rules and regulations, a system that would eventually be termed 'Heraldry' – so popular, so necessary? From the London Heraldry Society, Clive Alexander and Bernard High endeavour to unravel some of the mystery and also take a look at the heraldry of the individuals associated with Copped Hall through the centuries. Teas and Coffees will be available mid-morning and in the afternoon. Attendees should bring their own packed lunch. Please bring along any heraldic insignia that you might have.
