Renishaw Hall and Gardens

About

The gardens and grounds at Renishaw are now open and, until Sunday 13th September, visitors to the Hall and Gardens are being invited to send in their poems, drawing inspiration from the house and grounds as they visit.

The poetry will be displayed around the gardens from National Poetry Day to Sunday 4 October 2021, as part of Renishaw’s ‘POETrees’ event – a celebration of poetry, including the Sitwell family members’ own creative legacies.

Writers of all ages and experiences are asked to send in poetry; using themes from the works of Edith, Osbert and Sacheverell Sitwell as a guide, with themes including: the Gothic Temple, Lime Avenue, statues, yew hedges, the woods, parkland, wilderness and the lakes, as well as all the specimen trees, flowers and plants to be enjoyed throughout the grounds.

There is a full list of themes on our website.

The authors of three poems will be selected as overall winners by local published poet, Ted Fairclough, with prizes including a sumptuous afternoon tea for two, a hall and garden entry pass for two and a cream tea for two.

Renishaw Hall will endeavour to print out and display all poetry, however this is at the discretion of the visitor services team.
