After Dark: Nights out in 1920s London

About

Discover the sights, sounds, and scandals of London after dark.

From cavernous dance halls to riverside clubs, exclusive West End establishments to bohemian hotspots like The '43' Club – 1920s London was a place abuzz with all sorts of after hours activities.

Join Lucinda Gosling as she tells the stories of the wonderful assembly of characters who inhabited this nocturnal world, including cabaret artistes, jazz musicians, and the notorious 'Nightclub Queen' of Soho, Kate Meyrick. Come with us on this virtual bar crawl through a city that rarely slept.

Lucinda Gosling is a writer, curator and public speaker. Formerly manager of the Illustrated London News archive, she is now Head of Sales & Research at historical image source, Mary Evans Picture Library, where the archive provides much of the inspiration for her writing. She specialises in the social history of the First World War, 19th and 20th century royalty, high society and illustration. She has written over fifteen books including 'Debutantes & the London Season', 'Holidays and High Society' and 'The London Hippodrome: An Entertainment of Unexampled Brilliance'. Luci has given talks or taken part in panel discussions at venues including the Fashion & Textile Museum, London Transport Museum and Tate Britain and has contributed to History Today, Majesty Magazine, Tatler and Country Life.
