About

Ballindalloch Castle is first and foremost the much loved family home of the Macpherson- Grants. It is one of the very few privately owned castles to have been lived in continuously by its original family. Ballindalloch is one of Scotland’s most romantic castles, set in the magnificent surroundings of the Spey Valley and known as `The Pearl of the North’.

The Castle was built in the mid-16th century and subsequently enlarged by successive generations of the Macpherson-Grant family, resulting in the fairytale exterior that we see today. The architecture is complemented by interiors ranging from the atmospheric 1602 Tower, accessed by an original stone staircase, to the elegance and comfort of the 18th and 19th century formal rooms.

The Castle Gardens are our pride and joy. Spring brings daffodils, then a glorious display of rhododendrons and the splendours of the Rock Garden. In summer, the herbaceous border extends along the front of the Castle, before roses fill the air of the Walled Garden with their perfume. There are river and woodland walks and a children’s Playground as well as our welcoming Courtyard Café and Gift Shop.
