Historical anniversaries to look forward to in 2022

There are plenty of opportunities to celebrate and commemorate key historical events in 2022, here are a couple of the anniversaries that are coming up over the next year.

January 2022

4^th January – 380^th anniversary of the birth of Sir Isaac Newton.
5^th January – 100^th anniversary of the death of Sir Ernest Shackleton.
20^th January – 757^th anniversary of the first meeting of what would become parliament. It was the first time that parliament included representatives of all the major towns in England.
27^th January – Holocaust Memorial Day, celebrating the liberation of Auschwitz and Birkenau concentration camps.
30^th January – 50^th anniversary of Bloody Sunday in Northern Ireland.

February 2022

6^th February – 104^th anniversary of British women over 30 getting the right to vote.
6^th February – 70^th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II becoming first queen regnant of the UK and Commonwealth
8^th February – 435^th anniversary of the execution of Mary Queen of Scots.
22^nd February – 100^th anniversary of Egypt gaining independence from Great Britain.  

March 2022
15^th March – 350^th anniversary of Charles II of England issuing his Royal Declaration of Indulgence.
16^th March – 150^th anniversary of the first FA Cup final
24^th March – 50^th anniversary of the United Kingdom imposing direct rule over Northern Ireland.
29^th March – 5^th anniversary of the UK withdrawing from the EU.

April 2022

10^th April – 24^th anniversary of the Good Friday Agreement being signed in Northern Ireland.
14^th April – 110^th anniversary of the Titanic hitting an iceberg on its maiden voyage, it sank the following day.
16^th April – 276^th anniversary of the Battle of Culloden and the end of the Jacobite threat.
23^rd April – 361^st anniversary of King Charles II’s crowning bringing in the restoration of the monarchy.

May 2022

8^th May – 77^th anniversary of V E Day.
12^th May – 202^nd anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale.

June 2022

2^nd June – 69^th anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation, the first major international event to be televised.
8^th June – 109^th anniversary of Emily Davison’s death after being hit by the king’s horse at Epsom.
15^th June -807^th anniversary of King John sealing the Magna Carta.

July 2022

1^st July – 50^th anniversary of the first gay pride march in England.
18^th July – 200^th anniversary of the Secret Ballot being introduced.
27^th July – 10^th anniversary of the London Summer Olympics.

August 2022

15^th August – 77^th anniversary of VJ Day
31^st August – 25^th anniversary of the death of Princess Diana

September 2022

2^nd – 6^th September – 356^th anniversary of the Great Fire of London
6^th September – 500^th anniversary of the first recorded circumnavigation of the world.
28^th September – 956^th anniversary of the invasion of England by William of Normandy

October 2022

14^th October – 956^th anniversary of the Battle of Hastings
18^th October – 200^th anniversary of the first edition of the Sunday Times
21^st October – 217^th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar

November 2022

4^th November – 100^th anniversary since Howard Carter discovered the tomb of the Egyptian Pharaoh Tutankhamun.
5^th November – 417^th anniversary of the gun powder plot.
14^th November – 100^th anniversary since BBC radio service began.
