    More women to be remembered with blue plaques

    The woman described as the founding spirit of London’s famous Notting Hill Carnival, Claudia Jones, is among five women who will be remembered with a Blue Plaque as part of English Heritage’s project to include more women in their list of blue plaques. Plaques are also being unveiled for Emily Wilding Davison and Princess Sophia Duleep Singh, who were both suffragettes, Ada Salter, a former mayor, and the painter Marie Spartali Stillman.

    Monumental Welsh Women project announces new statue

    The Monumental Welsh Women Project has announced that it has commissioned their fourth statue to celebrate the achievements of Wales’ hidden heroines. The statue will be of Margret Haig Thomas, aka Lady Rhondda, an influential suffragette and will be created by sculpture Jane Robbins. The statue will be erected in Newport, where she campaigned and worked for over 40 years.
