Special lecture on Nelson by David Williams JP FRSA with a wine reception and buffet to follow. David's talk will illustrate the life of England's greatest naval hero, from his humble beginnings to his tragic death at Trafalgar. He will explain what made Nelson the man he was, what it was like to be a part of Nelson's Navy, and why his victories were so dramatic, and so important. The talk will be richly illustrated with some special images as well as a display of fascinating objects. These range from copies of Nelson's Coat of Arms and the magnificent Freedom Certificate he received at the Guildhall in 1798, to a cat o' nine tails, a Georgian naval cutlass from the time of Trafalgar, and even a rare silver spoon that belonged to Nelson himself.
