The beautiful St Hubert's, affectionately known as the Little Church in the Fields, dates back to the 11th century and is famous for its mediaeval wall-painting. The downland surrounding the church and its small churchyard are a great place for a pre-event picnic, especially in May when wild flowers abound.
The programme includes some music and readings from the work of Edward Thomas, the centenary of whose death at the Battle of Arras we are commemorating this year. After an interval when a glass of prosecco or fruit juice is served (included in the ticket price) there are readings from the 2016 published anthology Chalk Poets led by leading Downland poet, Stephanie Norgate.
Part of the South Downs Poetry Festival.
The church is in urgent need of repair and all receipts from this event will go to the charitable trust responsible for raising money for that purpose.
Special parking is laid on opposite the church path entrance - to get to the church itself you need to walk a short distance across the field from the road.
