Lunchtime Talk: The Dinas Powys hillfort: Hall of a Dark Age king or a nest of Irish robbers?

About

A little hillfort hidden in the woods outside the village of Dinas Powys is the most important Dark Age site in Wales. It was dug in the late 1950s by a team from what was then University College Cardiff. Since it was published in 1963, the interpretation of the site and its finds has been debated and revised several times. Was it a Welsh princely residence or a nest of Irish robbers?

Work by academics in Cardiff and elsewhere have transformed our understanding of the site and reinforced its importance.

In this talk, current views of the site, the latest evidence from survey work and outline what the future might hold for one of the most spectacular and productive sites in south Wales, will be discussed.

With Dr Alan Lane, Senior Lecturer in Archaeology, Cardiff University.
