Want to share your special places or find out which places matter most to other people? Self-guided walks will lead you to the beautiful, magical and hidden places in the Peak District and Sheffield to tell the story of people and landscapes.
New to the Peak District or Sheffield? Or born and bread here?
The Peak District and Sheffield city have extraordinary everyday places with a rich history. But it is not just the grand histories that make these places special. Rather, the life stories, traditions, skills, myths, legends and beliefs shape the history of the landscape we live in or love to visit.
Self-guided walks based on the stories of the residents will give you an insight into the very special places and the beautiful stories behind them.
Share your own story on a map or find out which places other people love for the wide and open views, for walking or climbing, for mindful relaxation, peaceful atmosphere and wellness, for the history or the traditional skills, for their very personal connection.
A range of self-guided walks with additional information and photographs, downloadable GPX data and printed maps, and short talks on the project behind the walks will give you all you need to set off on a short journey through the past to the present. Take a Kendal Mint Cake with you as a provision for your walk. And for the kids, there will be hands-on action with dig boxes to experience history and archaeology in the Peak District first-hand.
There will also be lots of interactive resources available online along with a gallery so watch this space during the festival
