European Heritage Days Open Doors - 'Hidden Wall'

About

Open Doors is Wales’ biggest celebration of architecture and heritage and it is part of the European Heritage Days which takes place in 50 European countries each year in September. Open Doors is organised by The Civic Trust of Wales on behalf of the Welsh Government and supported by CADW, its historic environment service.

Using Speed's map of 1610 as a guide, this walk which is presented by Cardiff on Foot, inlcudes a complete circuit of Cardiff's lost medieval town wall looking for clues to where it once stood and hear about its 600 year history as Cardiff's main defence. The route takes in the sites of the main fortified gates and the castle's southern wall. The clues that we follow include the layout of modern streets, the route of the old Glamorganshire canal, a section of reconstructed wall, the last visible fragment of the old wall and historical written references.

Meet at The Old Library in the Hayes.
