The Promised Lands, (2013 to Present) Work in Progress

Digital camouflage army jacket worn by a U.S. soldier in the Iraq War, traditional Persian Sermeh Douzi embroidery with beads, bullion and metal threads.

Simin Eivazi is an Iranian born American feminist multidisciplinary cultural practitioner currently living and working in London. She obtained her BFA in sculpture from California College of the Arts in San Francisco and completed her MA in art and politics at Goldsmiths, University of London as a Jack Kent Cooke scholar.

Her artistic practice explores possibilities to critically respond to the politics of sovereignty, conflict and terror through investigating the poetics of identity, dislocation, religion and femininity. The notion of body is a crucial layer to her practice; hence, both the absence and presence of the body are materialized through the performative aspect of her projects. She explores various forms and materials such as, ceramics, textiles and poetry as well as found objects that contain certain histories or philosophies where their past contents become relevant to the present or those of the future.
