Elton Hall & Gardens - World Topiary Day

About

Thursday, 12th May is World Topiary Day and we are celebrating by opening the private Wilderness Garden for the afternoon. Launched by EBTS UK and Levens Hall, home of the world's oldest topiary garden, World Topiary Day celebrates the timeless art of clipping and shaping trees.

On this pre-season special visit, visitors will be able to wander across to the Wilderness Garden on the west side of the house. In this secluded garden, three main paths lead to specimen trees and a Hermitage. Smaller, intersecting plants weave between spring shrubs and over 20 species of shaped box.

Back in the formal gardens, admire the artistic shapes on the topiary lawn; Bertie the Dog is always a firm favourite. Between the neatly clipped hedges, see the late tulips in the Pond Garden and early herbaceous planting coming up in the Flower Garden around the topiary pyramids.

(Please note that the House will not be open on this occasion.)
