Archaeology Lunchtime Talk : Iron Age Midden & Feasting site

About

After the Party? The Iron Age midden and feasting site at Llanmaes, Vale of Glamorgan - With Adam Gwilt and Mark Lodwick.

As the fieldwork stage of this Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales led project has now drawn towards a close, Adam Gwilt will present an overview of the significant discoveries made during recent excavations at Llanmaes, Vale of Glamorgan between 2003 and 2010.

This will touch upon investigations of a feasting site producing exceptional residues of pig bones, cauldrons and bronze socketed axes, and a Bronze Age settlement discovered beneath.

Additional excavations of a nearby Early Bronze Age burial monument and an Iron Age and Roman settlement enclosure help to locate the feasting site as a place within its emerging ancient landscape setting.

The project has provided rich outdoor arena and laboratory for creativity, engagement, schools and community involvement, as this talk will illustrate
