Set in the High Weald with wonderful views of the South Downs High Beeches has been sensitively planted with many rare trees and shrubs to create a place of great beauty and tranquillity. Originally created by a member of the Loder family it was bought by Anne and Edward Boscawen in the 1960s who restored the garden in the manner in which it was created. A plantsman’s garden with a superb collection of trees and shrubs many becoming rare both in the wild and in cultivation.
In Spring, the many woodland glades are carpeted with bluebells and primroses and are surrounded by the colour and scent of azaleas and rhododendrons. Summer is the time to enjoy the native flora, the 4 acre ancient natural wildflower meadow is a beautiful sight, attracting pollinators, butterflies and dragonflies. In August the blue woodland gentians can be seen in flower throughout the garden, High Beeches is the only place in the country where these beautiful plants have naturalised. Autumn follows with a spectacular display of colour provided by the many Acers, Nyssas and Liquidambers.
