This ancient custom is all but unique to Derbyshire. At its simplest, it’s the art of decorating wells and springs with pictures made using only natural materials. Wingerworth dresses three wells, all in the same location.

From North/South Leave M1 motorway at junction 29 and follow A617 to Chesterfield (approx 4 miles). At traffic light controlled roundabout select left lane and take 1st exit (A61 signposted Derby). At 1st set of traffic lights (McDonalds) go straight on (A61). Go straight on at next 2 sets of traffic lights and pass Esso petrol station on left. Continue on A61 going straight on at first roundabout. At second roundabout take 3rd exit (Nethermoor Road). Follow road for approx 1 mile and bear right (New Road). Follow road for approx ½ mile and turn left (Hill Houses Lane). Follow road for approx ¼ mile and Sheepwash on right.
From East Follow A617 to M1 motorway junction, then follow route from North/South.
From West Follow A619 to Chesterfield . At traffic light controlled roundabout (Matalan) select middle lane and take 3rd exit. Keep in left lane and, at traffic lights go straight on. Select right hand lane and, at roundabout take 3rd exit. At next roundabout (traffic light controlled) select right hand lane and take 3rd exit (A61 signposted Derby), then follow route from North/South.
