CLAYWORKS Exhibition

Date: 1 August to 10 September 2023

Summary: A celebration of the work of artists Jenny Beavan and Stuart Thorn, who have created joint and individual work reflecting on Cornwall and the china clay industry for 25 years. Although in separate mediums of clay and paint, the complementary work fits together to explore narratives of Cornwall’s industrial past and present.

Time: 10.00am to 5.00pm

Charles Rashleigh, Charlestown and China Clay

Date: 22nd September to 23rd December

Summary: 2023 marks the bicentennial of the death of Charles Rashleigh who built Charlestown in the late 18th century. Although initially built to ship tin and copper, Charlestown became one of the major clay ports in Cornwall. Learn more about the life of Rashleigh and his legacy in Charlestown.

Time: 10.00am to 5.00pm

Summary: Get creative with a range of hands-on, clay-inspired fun – from pottery painting (choose from three items) to pinch pot making, or modelling your own nature-inspired clay creature, there’s lots of variety at different price points.

Earth Treasures Trail

Date: 1st August to 10th September

Summary: There are many wonderful things to experience at Wheal Martyn! Sights, sounds, smells and history. Follow the trail and discover the clues to piece together your very own summer treasure.

Collect your booklet from the front desk (£1 per person). Navigate your way around the trail, collecting stamps and doing creative activities at different treasure stations, whilst gathering clues! When you have completed the trail, head to the learning space to create your own treasure to take home, using a portion of clay.

Waste-not Clothes Swap Fundraiser

Date: Thursday 14 September        

Summary: It’s time to start thinking about the autumn/winter wardrobe and what better way to update it than a clothes swap! Not only do you get some ‘new to you’ items to wear but you are helping the planet too.

Mevagissey Quay Notes

True Foxes

Date: 2nd November                    

Summary: True Foxes are an up-and-coming, BBC Introducing South West, female duo from West Cornwall. Comprising of cousins Amie Parsons (lead vocals/ guitar) and Chloe Payne (vocal harmonies/bass), they blend pop-folk song-writing, soft rock country and atmospheric harmonies, to create hauntingly beautiful and catchy melodies.
