The changing face of childhood: a curator-led tour of RAMM's fine art collection

About

As part of Exeter Art Week, join a tour of RAMM’s Childhood exhibition, followed by cake and refreshments.

The exhibition focuses on the changing face of childhood from the 17th to 20th century explored through RAMM’s fine art collection. Discover the evolution of childhood portraiture as we examine works by James Gandy and Richard Cosway, where children are as depicted as miniature adults. Later 19th-century family portraiture by James Leakey reveals a shift in focus, characterised by tender relationships with an emphasis upon the child as an individual.

A key painting of this exhibition will be Age of Innocence by Joshua Reynold’s, one of the most famous painters of the 18th century. This work is on loan from Plymouth City Museum as part of their ‘Art on Tour’ loan programme whilst the museum is closed for redevelopment.

Tickets are available online or from the Royal Albert Memorial Museum reception in person or by phone using a credit or debit card on 01392 265858 during opening hours: Tuesday to Sunday, 10am to 5pm.
