Join us for this coffee house conversation as part of the Southampton-wide Jane 250 celebrations. hosted by Dr Cheryl Butler
“No coffee, I thank you, for me—never take coffee—A little tea if you please” Emma
The Georgians invented the Coffee House as a place to go and discuss the important issues of the day, so join us for tea (or Coffee!) and cake and learn about the ceremony of taking tea with the Hampshire Jane Austen Society.
Once you are topped up with tea it is all about the conversation, this one will be about the banking crisis that rocked the Austen family. We'll also explore the stories of the poor debtors who found themselves in God’s House Prison when Jane Austen lived in Southampton.
Tickets cost £8 which includes a hot drink and a cake of your choice from the cafe counter.
