Dr Steve Etches MBE with Pliosaur Skull

About

The Home of Attenborough's Giant Sea Monster!

On the back of the incredible BBC documentary 'Attenborough and the Giant Sea Monster' we are very excited to share our amazing Pliosaur skull discovery. Come see this amazing creature and learn more about how it lived, hunted, and died in the Jurassic seas of Kimmeridge 150 million years ago. The skull will be on display at the museum from January 2nd, 2024.

"This really is the most complete Pliosaur skull that has been discovered to date and it is one of, if not the most important specimen ever to come out from the Kimmeridge clay, and globally, this is one of the best specimens you'll see" - Dr. Steve Etches, MBE.

Scientifically this specimen will unlock a treasure trove of secrets for many years to come. Throughout the filming process the museum was fortunate to work with some of the most prestigious university palaeontology departments, utilising state-of-the-art technologies to reveal fascinating details about this ferocious predator, but there is still more work to be done to further study this once-in-a-lifetime find.
