Margaret Berry - Emblems of Wales

About

The Dragon is coming out of his lair for “Emblems of Wales”, sponsored by Lord Dafydd Elis Thomas AM
To complement Draig, the ten-foot flying dragon, Margaret Berry has created a set of six large sculptures drawn from Welsh history spanning the last 1500 years. The show “Emblems of Wales” has taken three years in the making as a consideration of “representing Wales and its People” to fit the Welsh Assembly’s Pierhead building. Margaret specialises in suspended sculptures and her chosen medium is ceramic. The show lasts for four weeks in the Futures Gallery upstairs at the Pierhead with full disabled access.
Margaret’s private studio is in Dolgellau, Mid-Wales. She has been sponsored by Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas AM to display her work.
Her dragon has been sleeping in a box since a show at Cywain in Y Bala in 2011 and will next see the light on October 8th. “Draig” should be in good company with, among others, an eight-foot sky diving Llywelyn ap Gruffydd, a life-size tight rope walking Hywel Dda and a pensive armour-clad Owain Glyndwr considering stones gathered from all the counties of Wales’s varied and beautiful landscape.
