Heritage Open Day at Swarkestone Pavillion
Type:Historical
Swarkestone, Ticknall, Derbyshire, DE73 7JB
About
For a long time little was known of the Swarkestone Pavilion; neither its precise date, its designer, nor its place in the wider arrangement of the house (the vanished Swarkestone Hall) and garden. Join us to find out more.
This tiny pavilion was a majestic grandstand for whatever went on in the enclosure in front. It is a mature expression in miniature of all that was best in Tudor and Jacobean architecture. The bathroom is contained at the top of one of the turrets and to reach it you must cross the open roof. These free open days will be an opportunity to see inside this important local Landmark and learn more about its history and restoration. Admission to Swarkestone Pavilion is free and leaflets are provided detailing the building's history.
