European Heritage Days Open Doors: Mansion House

About

Cardiff Council is once again pleased to be able to participate in the Civic Trust’s European Heritage Days ‘Open Doors’ programme by opening the Mansion House to visitors on Saturday 15th September and this year, the event will be staged in partnership with Glamorgan Archives. The event will offer visitors:

A special presentation by Glamorgan Archives based on their Cardiff: The Building of a Capital project, allowing participants to discover more about the building of the Mansion House, explore the built heritage of Cardiff from information contained in 40,000 building regulations plans held in the Archive and find out how to learn more about the history of their house, street, workplace, local area and the City

And,

A guided tour of this fascinating Victorian mansion, originally built to be the family home of the City’s renowned retailer, James Howell in 1896 which became the official residence of The Lord Mayor of Cardiff in 1913 and now houses an extensive and interesting collection of period furniture and artefacts collected by Cardiff Council through the years.
