Cheltenham Literature Festival is the world’s longest-running literature Festival, leading the way in celebrating the written and spoken word, presenting the best new voices in fiction and poetry alongside literary greats and high-profile speakers. We highly recommend you make a day of it: explore the FREE-to-enter Festival Village, browse the bookshops, catch surprise performances, or simply relax with street food and a drink in hand.
This year, 10 - 19 October 2025, 30% of the programme at the annual ten-day festival are free, providing 100+ events and activities to literary fans of all ages with access to free talks, performances and workshops. The free programme takes place in the Festival Village in Montpellier Gardens and at venues across Cheltenham town centre, thanks to the support by Cheltenham BID.
Festival-goers can experience everything from fantasy map-making and personalised book recommendations to community writing showcases, fairytale inspired ceilidhs and more, plus families can embark on an immersive adventure to Wonderland. The much-loved Lit Crawl is also returning to take over Cheltenham venues around town. More details here.
