Gallery 22
Children’s book illustrator Victoria Byron has created a new book especially for RAMM’s 150th anniversary. Alfie is a sparrow who sits amongst the other birds in the gallery. One night, when the visitors have all left, something magical happens: the museum comes alive and Alfie goes exploring.
Victoria has created colourful illustrations of some of the museum’s well known objects, as well as a few that aren’t always spotted by visitors. The book takes children on a wonderful tour of RAMM.
The exhibition includes original illustrations from the book as well as Victoria’s sketchbooks, showing her inspiration and creative process.
Young visitors can create their own stories around characters from the book with our special puppet theatre. In another quiet corner, children can explore some of the books that their parents and grandparents read when they were young.
Alfie’s trail
Pick up a leaflet from reception and follow Alfie to find out more about the museum objects in the book.
Meet Alfie’s creator
To celebrate the opening of the exhibition, join Victoria Byron the book's creator for Alfie's Explorers' Party on Sun 29 April 11am to 12.30pm in Gallery 22. (Add link to event page)
