1000 years of Warp and Weft

About

Starting in the medieval period with the production of cloth for local consumption, David Birks will explain how the woollen trade developed into an international trade driven by wealthy Wiltshire clothiers, until it became a mighty industry drawing in the workers from the countryside. Using images, the Museum's handling collection and some objects from the Museum store David will explain how the simple act of weaving came to dominate the west Wiltshire townscape.
