ANTRIM - ARMAGH - DOWN – FERMANAGH – LONDONDERRY – TYRONE
The heritage of Northern Ireland is unique; ancient castles jostle with Stuart plantation houses decorated with Irish silver and Waterford crystal. Long years of conflict have left remarkably little mark on this peaceful province with its large inland loughs, Norman castles and elegant houses. Look out for unique architectural treasures like the Ulster Round Towers, a reminder of the monasteries that were once common. A mild climate favours gardens where exotic plants thrive and don’t miss 17th century baroque water gardens like those at Antrim Castle Gardens. Late 18th century houses at Hillsborough Castle, Ballywalter Park and Baronscourt give a real flavour of Ireland’s Enlightenment past. Don’t forget your wolf cloak if you’re a fan of Game of Thrones – many of the early locations are here.
