Dog Friendly

There are a number of heritage properties that actively welcome dogs onsite, especially those that have wide open spaces, gardens and parkland attached to them. In the UK, dogs are considered part of the family, so if you’re planning a day out with your dog, make sure to take a look at these heritage properties.  

Historical houses and dogs 

When it comes to bringing your dog on a trip to a heritage house, it is always best to check with the individual property, as seasonal restrictions may apply in some places and others will accept dogs in certain areas of the property or under certain circumstances. Both the English Heritage and the National Trust tend to be dog friendly at the majority of their properties, as long as you keep all dogs on a lead at all times when visiting and that you clean up after them during your visit.  

Heritage parkland 

The UK is full of heritage parks and gardens and there are a number of popular heritage spots that are perfect for dog walking, including places like Souter Lighthouse in Tyne and Wear or along Hadrian’s Wall in Scotland.  

Please just be wary of any nearby livestock as many sites managed by heritage organisations are used by local farmers.
