Y Talbot is a Welsh Country Inn, set in the centre of Tregaron, a small town nestling at the foot of the Cambrian Mountains. 20 miles West takes you to Cardigan Bay and 20 miles East over the mountains on a single track former drover’s road to Abergwesyn and the Elan Valley.
Mick and Nia Taylor took over and refurbished Y Talbot some three years ago and have made it an essential stop for people touring this part of Wales by car, bicycle, and horse or on foot.
Tregaron itself has a Welsh Gold Centre, selling high quality Welsh jewellery, and there is a craft and Welsh woollen shop in the town.
19th century writer George Borrow recorded that he ‘experienced very good entertainment, an excellent supper and a very comfortable bed here’. He would not be disappointed if he returned today to the excellent restaurant, lively bar, comfortable en suite accommodation and friendly staff.
There are 9 superior double bedrooms, simply and practically furnished with arresting artwork and original features; torrents of piping hot water and sumptuous walk in showers in the modern en suite bathrooms; also two standard twin rooms and two single rooms. Two of the ground floor and courtyard suites are dog friendly.
Head Chef Dafydd Watkin trained with Marco Pierre White and was sous chef at The Ritz before joining Y Talbot in 2010. The menu combines pub classics and modern British cuisine using the best local produce.
Weddings and meetings welcome. The function room seats 100; there is also a small meeting room.
Dining is available in pub or restaurant.
Open all year.
