Every month, Mrs Hudson, along with her three children and Dinky the Irish Wolfhound investigate the best family and dog friendly heritage attractions that the UK has to offer.
Read on to see where the Hudsons have been this month.
Well, what a year 2022 has been!
This time last year, we sat down as a family and decided we wanted to experience as much British heritage as we could over the course of the year, especially as the children are getting older and much more interested in history. Florence, our eldest is still going through her Tudor phase, while Bertie and Elwood the twins have discovered a passion for the ancient world, especially the Egyptians, and the industrial revolution. Elwood’s face when hearing about his grandfather’s life as a miner was a joy to behold!
This year we’ve spent a lot of time visiting some of our more local heritage attractions, like those in Trowbridge, Bradford on Avon, Salisbury and Bath. We’ve been settled in Wiltshire for some time now but we’ve never really spent any time exploring our local area and we’ve discovered some new favourite places that are just a stone’s throw from home. Making the most of the museums in Trowbridge and Bradford on Avon, as well as doing some paddleboarding have all been huge highlights for me.
During the year we’ve also been lucky enough to visit London on a couple of occasions, as well as Yorkshire and Cornwall. We’ve also managed two staycations, one in Dorset where we got to explore the Jurassic Coast and one in my home town of Merthyr Tydfil – both times we got to take Dinky with us which was lovely and I think in 2023, we’ll be focusing on finding more places that are dog friendly.
Another huge highlight for us was getting to spend Mother’s Day exploring Cambridge, which was rounded off with a delightful cream tea! I’m not sure we can do something so extravagant again next year, but fingers crossed!
Aside from our adventures, 2022 has been a fascinating one, firstly we celebrated the Queen’s jubilee and the incredible service she had given being the longest reigning monarch and then her passing. It truly was a momentous time living through the changing of a monarch and everything that came along with it. There is certainly much to look forward to in 2023 with a new coronation and the beginnings of new coins, stamps and everything else.
We hope you had a wonderful Christmas break and a happy new year and we’ll be back with our adventures in 2023.
