Introduction to Green wood spoon carving experience

Let the world go for a while and spend time on our farm in the Surrey Hills learning how to carve a spoon from Billet (part of a log). Whittle and lunch included (by the open fire - weather permitting). We can't wait to welcome you!

No experience needed. Tools and materials are provided, along with lots of tea, coffee and biscuits to keep you going. Our experience also includes a delicious lunch cooked over the campfire.

What to expect
The small classes take place in the beautiful setting of our family farm nestled on the edge of Sheepleas nature reserve and at the foot of The Surrey Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty. The workspace is undercover in an open sided farm building, or weather dependant can be around the open fire in a small adjacent copse. Lunch is often cooked on the same fire and served there.
Most participants are beginners, although some may be returning to further practice their skills and gain more experience.

During the day
We will guide you through the steps to making a wooden spoon of your own. During the day, you'll explore: Axe & general wood carving tool use, Wood selection, axe work and finder spoon carving knife work. This is an introduction to a new craft, being creative and slowing down to appreciate the art of carving.

Arts and crafts experience gift cards - Our flexible gift cards make brilliant presents and allow the lucky recipient to choose this or any course that takes their fancy.

Corporate team wellness craft experience day - Teambuilding with a difference! Spend time crafting together, away from the stresses of the business world. We are happy to tailor an experience that's just right for your team.
About Joy Farms - The Joy Family has been working their land and crafting in the tranquil Surrey Hills for nearly a century. Adrian Joy, the third generation of his family to farm, enjoys woodcarving – spoons in particular. Adrian is now married to Sarah, a fellow creative who loves arts and crafts. Together, they offer the opportunity for you to enjoy this special environment and discover new skills and hobbies. They can't wait to welcome you!
