The Kings Theatre throws open its doors this September for a free day of history tours, tech tours, stage performances and more.
Explore the part of the theatre that most interests you, with a themed tour covering the building's history, and another of the technology needed to put on shows. Tours will be offered throughout the day but please note numbers are limited and will therefore need to be booked in advance. Each tour will take approximately 40 minutes.
Please note, both tours require participants to be able to climb up five stories of steps. There will be a slightly altered version of the history tour offered to reduce this to three stories, which will be highlighted at the time of booking.
Onstage entertainment will take the form of The Kings Theatre Cabaret - presented by Jack Edwards as Dame Dolly from the Pompey Panto and featuring performances from local musical societies such as The Portsmouth Players, CCADS, Benchmark Theatre and Stage One.
Exhibits will cover the theatre's rich history, whilst attendees will also get the chance to speak to archivists and hear plans for the theatre's regeneration. It means that this Heritage Open Days provides the opportunity to consultat on plans to regenerate the three derelict shops along Albert Road that adjoin the theatre.
If all that wasn't enough there will also be children's craft workshops, ghost stories and more. All the while the day will be covered by an outside broadcast from media partners Express FM.
Tours are free but need to be pre-booked through the Kings Theatre website.
