Dating back to 1107, Traquair was originally a hunting lodge for the kings and queens of Scotland. Later a refuge for Catholic priests in times of terror the Stuarts of Traquair supported Mary Queen of Scots and the Jacobite cause without counting the cost.

Today, Traquair is a unique piece of living history welcoming visitors from all over the world, providing a magical and romantic setting for weddings, hosting a wide range of summer events and a superb venue for corporate groups. You can even stay here in the luxurious Bed & Breakfast accommodation.

Visitors are invited to enjoy the house, extensive grounds, maze, craft workshops, 1745 Cottage Restaurant and the famous Traquair House Brewery housed in the eighteenth century wing and producing the world famous Traquair House Ales

By car: Distances to Traquair:

Innerleithen 1.5; Peebles 6; Galashiels 12; Edinburgh 29 (60 minutes); (Edinburgh Airport 40 minutes); Glasgow 60

By public transport:By rail: disembark at the Galashiels transport Interchange and take a 62 bus to Innerleithen that depart every 20 minutes. It is then a short 15 minute walk to the house or take a local taxi.
By Bus: From Waterloo Place in Edinburgh take the No X62 or 62a (departing every 20/30 minutes) to Innerleithen and disembark at the Post Office on High Street. (journey time approx 1hr 20mins). For Bus timetables please take a look:
From Innerleithen: By foot it is 1.5 miles and takes about 20mins or by taxi Tel; 01896 833003.
