About

Rockingham Castle was built on the instructions of William The Conqueror, following his invasion of Britain in 1066. Rockingham Castle has been home to the Saunders Watson family for the past 450 years, and prior to that was held by the Crown.

One of the remarkable aspects of Rockingham’s history is that there are few other homes in England that have been continuously occupied for nearly 1,000 years by only two families. Now, James Saunders Watson, his wife Elizabeth Saunders Watson and their three children reside in the Castle.

Rockingham Castle is open throughout the year, allowing visitors to explore the Castle & Grounds, and the beautiful formal gardens. All of our visitors are welcome to explore St Leonard’s Church and Rockingham Village, with Walker’s House Tearoom serving a range of cakes, beverages and light lunches.

Rockingham Castle also has an extensive calendar of events ranging from the popular Victorian Christmas and Jousting events, to the Rockingham Castle Artisan, Food and Craft Market and Teddy Bears Picnic.
