The Old Rectory 'Restaurant with Rooms'

Chris & Sally Entwistle are very much ‘hands on’ hosts at this charming Grade II Listed Old Rectory, just two miles from Norwich City Centre and set in the residential Conservation Area of Thorpe St Andrew. They are proud to be Norwich’s only AA 4-star Gold, two rosette Restaurant with Rooms. Guests can enjoy an aperitif in the comfortable lounge, where Chris will tell you about the local area and recommend the highlights of the seasonal menu. Local art (some of it for sale) adorns the walls of the public rooms.

Outside there is one acre of quiet garden and a swimming pool (unheated summer only). For meetings, the Wellingtonia Room and The Conservatory look out onto the pool terrace. Opposite the hotel you can take a brief walk around the NWT Thorpe Marshes nature reserve. A short journey by car, bus, or boat (seasonal) takes you to the many attractions of Norwich city centre. The Old Rectory is an excellent base for business travellers and leisure guests who want the convenience of the city and the quiet of the country – a perfect combination.

Eight comfortably furnished rooms, seven with bath and one with a shower room, come with fluffy bathrobes and many little extras. Most face South overlooking the gardens. Dowager’s Cottage is a cosy self-catering property in the garden, overlooking the swimming pool. It sleeps two guests and is suitable for longer stays.

A delicious seasonal three course Two Rosette dinner is available Tuesday-Saturday in the intimate 16-seat dining room. Starter might be Potted Dressed Cromer Crab, followed by Roasted Marinated Medallions of Attleborough Beef and concluding with a Warm Orange Blossom, Almond and Polenta cake. Advance booking essential.

Our 2 AA Rosette dinner menu is usually served Tuesday - Saturday inclusive; the Dining Room is closed Sunday and Monday evenings. We don't serve lunch but there are a number of options within walking distance.
