Live out your fairytale romance in a castle
Britain is full of castles, so it is no surprise that many of them now offer accommodation, with everything from bed and breakfast to fully serviced hotel stays. You can choose between self catering, so you can really feel like King (or Queen) of the castle, or spend your days being waited on, just like the monarchs and barons of yesteryear.
There are castle B&Bs and hotels located all over the country, including Hever Castle, childhood home of Anne Boleyn, the second unfortunate wife of Henry VIII which offers luxury B&B accommodation in Kent. Alternatively, Amberley Castle, a 900 year old structure even offers spa stays!
Cosy heritage cottages
You’re never too far from a cute cottage, complete with thatched rooves and original brickwork when in the British countryside. Why not try hiring one such property in one of the nation’s chocolate box villages like Castle Combe in Wiltshire or Cockington in Devon? Or, if you want to stay somewhere with plenty of history on the doorstep, several large National Trust estates have cottages onsite that are available to rent for short stays, allowing you easy access to heritage attractions without having to venture too far.

You can find plenty of hotels with history around the UK, especially in cities such as London and Bath where you can find former Victorian manors that have been converted into luxury hotels and in the more rural areas, where former country estates have been renovated to offer incredible accommodation.
Close to Luton airport, you’ll find Luton Hoo, a premier hotel with connections to WWII, aside from being an impressive looking building, Winston Churchill delivered speeches on the steps and it housed a number of European nobles during the conflict. Another hotel with connections to a wartime prime minister is Highfield Park in Hampshire, the former home of Neville Chamberlain, this elegant country manor is now an independent, family run hotel surrounded by beautiful countryside. Stay on the water
There are plenty of alternative accommodation options across the UK, but if you like your heritage, take a look at one of the many house boat holidays that are available in Britain’s historical canal ways and rivers.
There are some beautiful house boats located at various points along the Thames and staying on the water is one of the best ways to experience Birmingham, Cheshire and Liverpool.
