Background information:

Fairfield House, a medieval manor in Stogursey, Somerset, has been the family home of the Acland-Hood family for over eight centuries. The first manor was built as early as 1166 and was listed in Simon Jenkins’ England’s 1000 Best Houses, Fairfield is a captivating destination for history and architecture enthusiasts.

A Manor Through the Ages

Fairfield is built to a traditional Elizabethan E-plan, with lime rendering over rubble, dressed by Bath stone. The oldest part of the building, the west wing, dates back to the medieval period and retains its 15th-century roof. Most of the remainder of the house is Elizabethan, with the rear section added in the 18th century. The estate also includes a barn and granary, stable block, and dovecote, all Grade II listed, preserving the character of this historic manor.

Stunning Gardens and Deer Park

The house stands beside a 15th-century deer park, giving the estate a timeless, natural setting. Closer to the house, visitors can enjoy an 18th-century walled garden that leads into a landscaped 18th-century garden. Seasonal plantings and mature trees provide year-round interest, making the grounds a haven for horticulture enthusiasts.
