Riviera Classic Car Show
Members of Torbay Old Wheels Club are delighted to announce that we are going ahead with the Riviera Classic Car Show on Paignton Green once again this year. It will look a little different because we have to keep everyone safe with fewer volunteers to run the show than in the past. Some of us are just a little less agile than we used to be! We'd like to thank everybody who has supported us over the years and hope you will be with us once again on
Sunday 27th July 2025.
The email for show entries is towc.carshow@icloud.com.

Member's car of the Month
My wife and I have only owned our beautiful dark green MGB V8 roadster, TAG 80M, since last September. We bought it at an auction being held by Dore & Rees at the Castle Combe motor racing circuit. I have been looking for a suitable roadster for a long long time and am always searching through classic auction sites. I love the classic lines of the MGB and to have a 3.5 litre V8 under the bonnet is awesome, so when TAG 80M appeared on line, we just had to go and have a look. We drove to the circuit on the day before the auction, and both instantly fell in love (with the car!). We stopped overnight in Chippenham, and on the next day, we nervously awaited the start of the auction, and it wasn't long before lot 12 came up. Fortunately, we were successful with our bid and were able to buy it just within our budget.
TAG 80M started life as a factory built V8 hardtop, but in 1995, it was comprehensively restored into a genuine BMH roadster bodyshell by March MGs in Cambridgeshire for the princely sum of £12,761.42. I have the original bill of sale, written on a scruffy piece of unletterheaded paper. It has light brown leather upholstery, a walnut veneered dash and door cappings, a wooden Motalita steering wheel and Minilite wheels. The 33,000 mileage is I believe genuine (the 1995 MOT on completion of the conversion is showing 17,054) and the car was stored in Glasgow between 2015 and 2023 while the owner lived abroad.
Our first show outing will be at Powderham Castle on Sunday 13th July (weather permitting!). Our eldest daughter Emma has called the car "Rupert the Roadster".

Last Wednesday in every month
We are currently meeting at Forde Hall Social Club, Brunel Road, Newton Abbot usually on the last Wednesday of the month at 7.15 pm. If you would like to come please contact us beforehand to check the date of the next meeting.
Our Activities
We enjoyed visiting lots of shows in our old vehicles throughout 2024. We’re still out and about through the darker months with breakfast get-togethers and occasional organised drives using our old cars if the weather’s suitable.
We’re now looking forward to more fun in the sun this summer.
