According to research in 2021, 96% of the Blue Plaques in London are dedicated to white individuals, with only 4% for Black, Asian or minority ethnic backgrounds. The first Blue Plaque dedicated to a Black individual was in 1975 and it would be another 11 years before the next would be issued.
